Australian blueberry growers are set to benefit from a new trade agreement with Vietnam, valued at approximately $22 million over five years. The deal allows Australian blueberries into the Vietnamese market for the first time, tapping into a consumer base of over 100 million with growing demand for premium produce.

The agreement also opens Australian markets to Vietnamese pomelos, finalising a two-way trade negotiation that began in 2022. Agriculture Minister Julie Collins welcomed the development, saying it reflects both the quality of Australian produce and strong international partnerships.

“This is a result of both the quality of our produce, and the strength of our relationship with Vietnam,” Minister Collins said.

“Australia’s hardworking, innovative blueberry producers should be proud of the fruit they grow, which is sought after all around the world.”

Hort Innovation CEO Brett Fifield said the agreement will “enhance the industry’s competitiveness both internationally and domestically,” while Berries Australia labelled Vietnam “a fantastic opportunity.” The blueberry industry is currently valued at $500 million, with an expected $4 million export return in the first year alone.
