The Federal Government has secured almost 100,000 tonnes of additional urea fertiliser for Australian farmers through its Fuel and Fertiliser Security Facility.
Three new shipments, totalling approximately 98,500 tonnes, are expected to arrive in Australia in coming weeks after agreements were reached with Incitec Pivot, CSBP and Summit Fertilizer.
The latest deliveries bring the total volume of urea secured under the program to around 340,000 tonnes, as industry and government work to ease supply concerns linked to ongoing instability in the Middle East.
Agriculture Minister Julie Collins says reliable fertiliser supplies are critical for food production and will help give farmers confidence when making planting and cropping decisions.
Since the escalation of conflict in the region earlier this year, around 1.4 million tonnes of urea have passed through Australia's biosecurity system, supported by streamlined border processing measures.
The Government says the broader security facility has also secured an additional 740 million litres of diesel and 150 million litres of aviation fuel to strengthen national supply chains.
