The federal government has cancelled five visas and intends to revoke six others linked to a dodgy scheme tied to a disgraced former state politician.
More than 10 people who gained visas through disgraced former NSW MP Daryl Maguire are set to have their status cancelled.
Mr McGuire is facing allegations he received thousands of dollars in cash at his taxpayer-funded office, with the money linked to securing Australian visas for Chinese nationals.
Senior Home Affairs official Andrew Kefford told Senate estimates a total of 20 people had been referred for visa cancellation including six named in an Independent Commission Against Corruption probe.
Five have already had their status revoked, while a further six have received a notice of intention to cancel.
Three people who received citizenship haven't had their status cancelled because a fraud offence needs to be proven against them.
Six other cases are under consideration, while there were 17 dependents linked to the 20 people who gained visas.
Australian Border Force deputy commissioner Justine Saunders said two matters relating to migration offences had been referred to the director of public prosecutions:
"I can reassure the committee this matter is being taken very seriously.
Two business sponsors in the NSW Riverina area have been barred from the migration program for five years.
Mr Maguire, who was the state member for Wagga Wagga, has admitted making representations to immigration officials as well as federal politicians.
Separately, he has been cleared by federal police over a controversial land deal near Western Sydney Airport.
The federal infrastructure department in 2018 paid $30 million for the Leppington Triangle land worth $3 million at Badgerys Creek.
ICAC heard allegations Mr Maguire personally benefited from other land deals in western Sydney.
Australian Federal Police deputy commissioner Ian McCartney said after working with ICAC there was no link found between those agreements and the airport land purchase, telling the hearing:
"Daryl Maguire is not a person of interest in relation to our investigation in relation to the Leppington Triangle."
