VFF Calls for Reports on Stock Watering Points

The Victorian Farmers Federation is asking producers to report problems with public standpipes and stock watering points, as ongoing dry conditions and limited water access continue to challenge farm operations across the state.

The Federation says many producers are currently having to cart water to maintain stock, and that they’ve received reports of some standpipes being difficult to access, unreliable, or in poor condition.

They say some locations may have restricted flow or insufficient capacity during peak demand, while unclear access arrangements are creating difficulties for producers collecting water.

In response, the VFF is encouraging members to provide details of specific sites—including the location, a description of the issue, whether the problem is new or ongoing, and how it affects their ability to supply water to stock—by emailing policy@vff.org.au. This information will be used to identify which standpipes and watering points require urgent repairs or upgrades and to inform the Federation’s advocacy with the Victorian Government.

The Federation says that local knowledge is essential for building an accurate picture of water infrastructure challenges and reporting these issues helps ensure critical water points are maintained and improved where they are needed most.
