Australia have won the World Test Championship Final against India at The Oval by 209 runs.

Travis Head's career-defining 163-run first innings set up the win and earned him man of the match honours. Steve Smith added 121 runs and formed a damaging partnership with Head which led the Aussies to a first innings score of 469 runs, immediately putting India on the back foot.

India were let down by their top order in the first innings as their first four batters combined for a total of 56 runs, but the middle and lower order carried them to a total of 296 to keep things interesting.

Australia declared at 8/270 in their second innings led by Alex Carey's 66 runs leaving India the difficult but not impossible task of chasing down 444 runs in the fourth innings. India's final innings started off well, but they lost their last 6 wickets for just 55 runs and fell short by 210 runs as the Aussie bowlers led by Nathan Lyon took command of the match.

Lyon took 4/41 to lead an extremely balanced bowling attack for the Aussies, giving him a total of five wickets for the match. Scott Boland also took five, Mitch Starc and Pat Cummins took four each and all-rounder Cam Green took two, both in the first innings.
