Australia’s Diamonds have completed a clean sweep of their three-match netball series against South Africa, defeating the Proteas 65–42 in the final Test at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre.
A commanding opening quarter saw the Diamonds take a 20–11 lead, which they extended to 39–20 by half-time. Although South Africa showed resilience in the third quarter - outscoring the hosts 12–10 - Australia’s class shone through in the final term to seal a comfortable 23-goal victory. The result confirms Australia’s dominance over the Proteas, maintaining their perfect record in 49 Tests against the South African side.
Sophie Garbin led the scoring for the Diamonds with 29 goals from 31 attempts, while debutant Lucy Austin made an immediate impact with 18 goals of her own. South African shooter Elmeré van der Berg, who is set to join the Adelaide Thunderbirds, top-scored for the visitors with 20 goals.
The match featured a historic family milestone, with mid-courter Hannah Mundy making her international debut, following in the footsteps of her mother, Shelley O’Donnell. The pair now become the first mother-daughter duo to represent Australia in the Diamonds' 87-year history.
With the series now concluded, Australia turns its attention to the Constellation Cup. The Diamonds will face New Zealand across four Tests, beginning this Friday night at Melbourne’s John Cain Arena. The Silver Ferns currently hold the trophy after a 3–1 series win last year.
