GrainGrowers flags historic constitutional changes

GrainGrowers is proposing changes to its constitution that would allow State Farming Organisations to become members for the first time.

Members will vote on the amendments at the organisation’s Annual General Meeting on October 7, following approaches from NSW Farmers and Grain Producers South Australia.

GrainGrowers Chair Rhys Turton says the proposal follows feedback from growers calling for a stronger and more united voice on national grain industry issues.

He says rising input costs, regulation and trade and market uncertainty are making collaboration between like-minded organisations increasingly important.

Under the proposed changes, an admitted State Farming Organisation would have a single vote as a membership entity, while existing grower members would retain all their current voting rights.

Mr Turton says GrainGrowers would remain grower-led and grower-governed, with member consultation to be held across the country in the coming weeks before growers vote on the changes in October.
