Grain Producers Australia has launched its 2025 Autonomous Farm Machinery Survey, giving farmers the chance to shape how automation and robotics are rolled out across the nation’s paddocks.

The five-minute national survey seeks grower feedback on how autonomous equipment is being used, tested and supported, helping to inform future safety frameworks, policy settings and investment priorities.

GPA spokesperson and Victorian grain producer Andrew Weidemann said the survey ensured farmers stayed in control of technological change.

“Autonomous platforms won’t replace good farmers—they should help us do more with the hours and labour we have, improve safety, and lift the precision of every pass,” he said.

Society of Precision Agriculture Australia Executive Officer Angelique McAvoy said the data gathered would guide the Grain Automate program, funded by the Grains Research and Development Corporation.

“Members tell us autonomy becomes valuable when it plugs into existing precision systems and workflows. This survey helps quantify those needs across different regions,” she said.

The survey, open until November 28, will feed into an industry report for manufacturers, policymakers and grower groups. Weidemann said,

“This is how we make autonomy easier, safer and more profitable—by turning real farm experience into clear action.”
