The New South Wales Government has announced a $7 million funding boost to rebuild the state’s cattle tick program, following an independent review.
The review, led by Biosecurity Commissioner Dr Katherine Clift, made 14 recommendations to strengthen protection for livestock along the Queensland border.
A renewed commitment to eradication will underpin the overhaul, with the first Cattle Tick Eradication Action Plan due by the end of September.
The program will also be expanded, with increased veterinary oversight, more technical support, and further research into chemical resistance and new control methods.
NSW Farmers has welcomed the announcement, saying it reflects strong engagement with producers during the review process.
However, the organisation says further detail is needed on how funding will be delivered across surveillance, compliance and on-ground support.
Producers are also calling for closer coordination with Queensland, warning cattle ticks do not respect state borders.
Work to implement the changes is expected to begin immediately.
