Australia’s world-leading natural fibre industries - wool and cotton - were in the global spotlight last month as Australian Wool Innovation (AWI) and Cotton Australia joined forces to champion the sustainability of Australian fibres at World Expo Osaka.
Hosted by Austrade on October 10, the event titled “Sustainability of Australia’s Fibre Industries” brought together 85 invited guests, including major Japanese trading houses and global fashion brands.
Acting Global Sustainability Manager for Australian Wool Innovation, Lisa Griplas, said it had been an honour to represent the nation’s woolgrowers on the world stage.
“Through Woolmark+, we helped connect Australian woolgrowers with global brands and partners who share their commitment to caring for land, animals and community,” Ms Griplas said.
“Events like this demonstrated that what happens on Australian farms resonates far beyond our borders.”
Cotton Australia CEO Adam Kay said the occasion reinforced Australia’s strong reputation for high-quality, responsibly grown cotton.
“The Expo gave us the opportunity to connect with a broader audience of brands and retailers who value traceable and sustainable natural fibres,” Mr Kay said.
Together, AWI and Cotton Australia showed that Australian wool and cotton are not only premium materials, but also a climate and nature solution helping shape the future of the global textile industry.
