Australia has confirmed Alex Carey will make his Test debut and take the gloves in the Ashes opener at the Gabba.
National selectors were weighing up whether to replace former skipper Tim Paine with Carey or fellow uncapped wicketkeeper Josh Inglis.
For Carey, who captained the Australian one-day side on a recent tour of the West Indies, it's a lifelong dream come true.
"I am incredibly humbled by this opportunity. It's an exciting build-up for what is a huge series," Carey said.
Despite the announcement, media debate continues on who the best option is to replace Tim Paine with legendary leg spinner Shane Warne calling on selectors to pick WA's Josh Inglis over Carey.
