The Victorian Farmers Federation says it plans to hit the ground running and work with newly elected Victorian Premier Ben Carroll to deliver stronger outcomes for agriculture and regional communities.
VFF President Ryan Milgate says leadership must start with listening, and the sector is seeking a government that recognises the importance of farmers to Victoria’s economy.
He says regional Victoria is facing major challenges, including the renewable energy rollout, the fire services tax, rising costs and deteriorating roads placing increased pressure on communities.
Mr Milgate says Mr Carroll has an opportunity to reset the relationship between government and agriculture, and put the sector back at the centre of Victoria’s economic future.
With just four months until the state election, the VFF is calling on all sides of politics to present a credible plan to support farmers and regional communities.
Mr Milgate says agriculture needs leadership that provides confidence and enables farmers to continue doing what they do best.
