In Victoria, the Allan Labor Government is helping agricultural startups find smarter, more sustainable ways to farm – making the industry safer, cutting down on waste, and protecting the environment.

Two Victorian AgTech startups - WoolGrow Australia and CForge – have each received $35,000 in funding following their standout performances in the CivVic Labs Circular Agriculture Challenge – a six-week program delivered by LaunchVic and supported by Agriculture Victoria.

Ten startups took part in a six-week intensive workshop, receiving $15,000 in equity-free funding, expert mentorship, and tailored guidance to refine their ideas and deliver practical outcomes.

WoolGrow Australia is turning low-value coarse wool into biodegradable soil pellets that nourish crops and reduce water use, while CForge is helping farmers transform unsellable produce into valuable products – cutting waste and emissions.

Minister for Agriculture Ros Spence said the government is supporting smarter farming systems that benefit both growers and the environment. “

By reusing materials, it helps farmers operate more efficiently while protecting the environment,” she said.

LaunchVic CEO Dr Kate Cornick said the state’s AgTech sector is booming. “The number of startups in Victoria’s AgTech industry has more than doubled since 2020 – and thanks to programs like CivVic Labs founders can test, refine and launch their businesses,” she said.

Applications are now open for the next CivVic Labs challenge, which will focus on boosting innovation in Victoria’s tourism, hospitality, and events industries – particularly in regional areas.
