VFF Calls for Victoria’s Share of Basin Funding

The Victorian Farmers Federation says Victoria should receive its fair share of Murray-Darling Basin adjustment funding, after making the largest contribution of high-reliability water recovery under the Basin Plan.

VFF Water Council Chair Andrew Leahy says Victoria has contributed more than 570 gigalitres of high-reliability water, representing around 23 per cent of the state’s entitlement volume.

While the Federation remains opposed to further water buybacks, it says funding should be directed towards regions most affected by permanent water recovery, including support for irrigation systems, infrastructure and agricultural businesses.

The VFF says protecting productive irrigation districts is essential to maintaining strong regional economies, as communities continue to manage the long-term impacts of the Basin Plan.
