Two Australians have been selected in the 2025 Major League Baseball Draft.

Sydney infielder Brent Iredale and Gold Coast pitcher Kailen Hamson are set to become Australia's latest professional baseball players, after Iredale was selected in Round 7 of the draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates, and Hamson was drafted in Round 8 by the Baltimore Orioles.
Iredale joins the Pirates after a standout junior baseball career for Australia, and a brilliant college season with the Arkansas Razorbacks.
He hit 14 home runs in the 2025 season and helped the Razorbacks reach the college world series.
He joins six other Australians in the Pirates system.
Meanwhile Hamson’s draft stock rose after a dominant college baseball season for independent school Cumberlands in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, as he was named the MSC Conference Pitcher of the Year.
And 17-year-old Year 12 student Mitch Evans has signed with the Detroit Tigers, becoming the fourth South Australian in the last two years to sign an MLB-affiliate contract.
There are now 28 Australians with MLB-affiliate deals and 38 Australians with professional contracts somewhere in the world.
