Grain Producers Australia is warning fuel and fertiliser pressures are shaping seeding decisions, as growers approach the 2026 planting window.
The industry body says recent Federal Government moves to review fuel supply and broader food supply chains must deliver practical outcomes.
The warning follows the appointment of a Fuel Supply Taskforce Coordinator and a new supply chain assessment, amid concerns about Australia’s reliance on imported fuel.
GPA Chair Barry Large says growers are making key decisions under tightening margins and uncertain input availability.
He says while global fertiliser prices have eased, affordability remains a concern, with the urea-to-wheat ratio above long-term averages.
“That gap highlights the real pressure on farm profitability,” he said.
GPA is calling for targeted measures, including tax incentives to support on-farm fuel storage.
Mr Large says the supply chain review must deliver immediate improvements to strengthen resilience and reduce exposure to global shocks.
