Somyurek joins Finn aiming to resurrect Democratic Labour Party

Former Labor MP turned independent, Adem Somyurek, will run for the splinter party representing Labor's former conservative wing, the DLP, alongside an exiled Liberal MP.

Bernie Finn was excommunicated from the Liberal Party for his conservative views and joins Somyurek on the DLP's Legislative Council ticket for the November 26 election.

Somyurek switches seats, running for Northern Metro instead of South-East metro and said he's doing it to 'hold Dan to account'. The ex-Labor MP recently resigned the seat he was sitting in after being elected on the Labor ticket at the previous election.

The DLP candidate said he was back in a 'centrist moderate Labour Party not captured by inner-city socialist left zealots':

Former Liberal now styled the Victorian DLP leader, Bernie Finn retains his seat in parliament representing Western Metro.

The DLP ran as 'Labour DLP' in the 2018 state election, earning 2.1 per cent of the primary vote. It did not run a candidate in the Victorian senate race in May.
