Snapshot of round 19 of the AFL season

A snapshot of round 19 of the AFL season, in which Collingwood's pulsating win over Port Adelaide was blighted by a racist aftermath.

THEY SAID IT: "I'm sure there's positives out of that game but I can't find any yet." - Hawthorn coach Sam Mitchell was left shattered after the Hawks gave up a 36-point lead against Richmond to lose by the narrowest of margins.

PLAYER OF THE ROUND: Carlton star Charlie Curnow dined out on West Coast's undermanned defence, kicking 10.3 and leading the Blues to their fifth-straight win. It was the first 10-goal haul at Carlton since Stephen Kernahan in 1995.

THE MOMENT: Jamie Elliott has once again shown he has ice in his veins. The Collingwood forward kicked a stunning 45m goal from the boundary late in Saturday night's blockbuster against Port Adelaide to give his team the lead, and they held on by two points.

TALKING POINT: Port Adelaide forward Willie Rioli is the latest Indigenous player to call out racist online abuse. It's now under AFL investigation, with Port and Collingwood condemning the comments.

STATS THAT MATTER: Geelong's goalless opening term in their loss to Brisbane was their first since 2015. Fremantle's poor start against Sydney also means they have now lost 20 of their past 22 opening quarters. Fremantle kicked the opening goal of Saturday night's match, before the Swans piled on the next six majors on the way to a convincing win.

TRIBUNAL WATCH: Rioli faces a two-game suspension for striking Collingwood opponent Nathan Murphy and West Coast's Sam Petrevski-Seton also is looking at a two-game ban for his dangerous tackle on Carlton's Alex Cincotta. Earlier this season, Petrevski-Seton was suspended for one game, for the same offence, on the same player. Hawthorn's Ned Reeves also faces a one-game suspension under the league's tackling crackdown.

INJURIES: J Ridley (Ess, quad), W Ashcroft (Bris, knee), J Silvagni (Carl, knee), S Walsh (Carl, hamstring), J Motlop (Carl, calf), T Barrass (WC, shoulder), L Shuey (WC, hamstring), C Lazzaro (NM, back),  L Shiels (NM, calf), N Larkey (NM, ankle), B Hill (Stk, chest), I Rankine (Adel, hamstring), N Murray (Adel, knee)

WHAT'S NEXT: Carlton take a five-game winning streak, but also a hefty injury list, into Friday night's blockbuster against arch-rivals Collingwood. The Western Bulldogs host GWS at Ballarat, with the Giants on a six-game winning roll. Slumping Essendon must beat Sydney at Marvel Stadium to keep in touch with the top eight. Port Adelaide will aim to halt a two-game slide in the Showdown, while resurgent Richmond will threaten Melbourne.
