Safe Work Australia is urging all workplaces to commit to safer practices as National Safe Work Month begins next week.
The campaign highlights the importance of workplace health and safety, following a year in which 200 Australians lost their lives at work and over 139,000 serious injury claims were made.
This year’s theme - safety: every job, every day - is a call to action for industries across Australia to make safety a daily priority, regardless of location or occupation.
Safe Work Australia CEO Marie Boland said the campaign, now in its 16th year, remains essential.
“Whether you’re on a construction site, in an office, driving a truck or tractor, in a classroom or a laboratory, you have a right to be safe at work every single day,” she said.
Each week in October, the campaign will focus on one step of the WHS risk management process – from identifying hazards to reviewing controls – supported by practical resources available to all workplaces.
“Our hope is that by the end of October, workplaces around the country will have a refreshed understanding of work health and safety risks and how to manage them,” Ms Boland said.
Workplaces are encouraged to take part by hosting events, using the free resources, and making a long-term commitment to safer working environments.
