South Australia’s citrus season is officially underway, with growers preparing for strong demand both locally and overseas as winter harvesting ramps up across the state.

The launch of the 2026 season at the Adelaide Central Market has highlighted the growing value of the industry, particularly premium Riverland oranges, lemons and mandarins.

New figures from Primary Industries and Regions SA show citrus exports rose five per cent last year to 132 million dollars, with more than 70 thousand tonnes shipped to international markets.

The domestic market remains the industry’s biggest contributor, generating more than 260 million dollars through fresh fruit sales and juice processing.

Industry group Citrus SA says favourable seasonal conditions have delivered strong quality fruit this year, while the Pick A Local, Pick SA! campaign is encouraging consumers to support local growers during the winter harvest period.

Growers from across the Riverland travelled to Adelaide this week for the official season launch, which also featured cooking demonstrations and industry events aimed at promoting South Australian produce to buyers and consumers.
