Golden North begins production at Murray Bridge

South Australian ice cream company Golden North has begun production at its new Murray Bridge plant, following the purchase of the former Beston Global Food Company facility after its liquidation in 2025.
The move brought an end to Golden North’s 103 years of production in the Mid North town of Laura, with only three staff reportedly accepting the offer to relocate with the company.
Managing director and co-owner Dimi Kyriazis says the new site brings production closer to the state’s central milk-producing region and provides capacity to increase output and expand into cheese manufacturing.

The plant has retained the recipes and equipment used at Laura, with the new facility allowing ice cream to be frozen more quickly. Golden North will initially source milk through another company before assessing its requirements and considering direct contracts with farmers.
The company expects the Murray Bridge operation to employ around 20 more workers than the Laura plant, bringing its total workforce to about 100. Around one-third of its products are sold in South Australia, with the remainder distributed interstate and overseas.
