Right to disconnect, gig economy changes locked in

Federal parliament has passed the latest tranche of workplace relations laws, including the right for employees to disconnect from their job out of hours.



The federal government's latest round of workplace relations laws have passed through parliament, paving the way for significant changes for employees.


* Workers will have the right to disconnect from their job out of employment hours.


* Employees will not be able to be punished by their boss for not answering phone calls or emails.


* There will be greater rights for casual employees to be able to transition to full-time work.


* Gig economy workers such as Uber drivers or couriers for Menulog will have more protections, with minimum standards introduced.


* Gig workers will have access to minimum standards for pay, super, along with penalty rates.


* Minimum standards will also be brought in for workers in the road transport industry.
