Australia’s cattle industry is set for another strong year, with new projections pointing to near-record production levels in 2026.
According to Meat & Livestock Australia, cattle slaughter is forecast to reach 9.45 million head, the highest level since 1978.
Beef production is expected to approach 2.9 million tonnes, supported by favourable seasonal conditions and strong processing demand.
Exports are also tipped to reach record levels, driven by tight global supply and ongoing demand from key markets including the United States.
The national herd is forecast to remain above 30 million head, despite a slight easing as high turnoff continues.
Carcase weights are expected to remain lower due to a higher proportion of grass-fed cattle entering the system.
Analysts say prices are likely to remain relatively stable, with global demand continuing to underpin confidence across the sector.
