Birregurra police have arrested a man following an incident during the Birregurra vs Alvie football fixture at Birregurra on Saturday afternoon.
Police were called to the Birregurra Recreation Reserve just before 4pm after a spectator had been observed abusing an umpire then allegedly brandished a knife.
Police arrested the 39-year-old Birregurra man after they located him, still holding the knife.
The man was released and is expected to be charged on summons with weapons offences to attend a Magistrates Court at a later date.
In the 2 pm match at the Birregurra Saints' home ground, the visiting Alvie Swans had won 11.11 (77) to Birregurra 3.12 (30).
