Rarely do police get as easy a 'pinch' as when one drink driver pulled up beside their vehicle at a Yarra Ranges service station to refuel.
At around 5:35am Sunday morning, officers in a marked divvy van pulled into a service station off the Warburton Highway.
A car pulled up next to them and they watched as the 36-year-old Mont Albert North male driver stumbled out of the car.
After initially breath-testing the man, police will allege he later recorded 0.234 blood alcohol content at Lilydale Police Station.
The man told police he had been at a party all night and was on his way home.
His vehicle was impounded, the man's licence was immediately suspended, and he was charged with drink driving.
