VICTORIA’S FIRE SEASON ENDS, CAUTION REMAINS

Victoria’s official fire danger period will end at midnight on April 30, with the final restrictions lifting in Glenelg Shire.

The Country Fire Authority says cooler temperatures and recent rainfall have helped reduce fire risk across the state.

Despite this, authorities warn that grassfires can still occur, even in milder conditions.

CFA Deputy Chief Officer Adrian Gutsche says landholders should take care when conducting burn-offs.

He says firefighters have responded to more than 50 escaped burn-offs since early March.

Residents are being urged to monitor weather conditions, maintain firebreaks and ensure adequate water is on hand before lighting any fires.

They are also encouraged to register burn-offs in advance and notify neighbours.

Authorities say while the season is ending, fire safety remains a year-round responsibility.
