The Ouyen United Kangas have wasted no time topping up their playing roster with three former West Adelaide players signed for 2022.
With a mass exodus of quality players continuing from the SANFL, Ouyen United have managed to cash in on their West Adelaide connection. Star midfielder Kane Stevens headlines the list along with 204cm ruckman Andre Parrella and the formerly AFL listed Andrew Lovell.
The three signings are the first batch of new recruits confirmed to be heading to Ouyen for the 2022 season. Ouyen United committee and life member Andrew Willsmore is confident there will be more to come during the pre-season.
"We are very excited. We've been working really hard to get some quality recruits to help our young guys out," said Willsmore.
"They will remain based in Adelaide and train over there together. There are a few other local boys over there they can get together with.
"Our reigning best and fairest Dallas Willsmore has come back from Adelaide and he's bringing back a carload with him. We're hoping to turn it into a minivan!"
Last season was forgettable for the Kangas, winning just one game in a COVID-19 affected season that seriously impacted their ability to recruit. No such dramas for Ouyen for season 2022, with the new recruits joining the signing of new co-senior coach Scott Grigg.
Grigg joins Brad Vallance and provides some much-needed bench assistance on game day for the star big man. Grigg has an extensive coaching resume that includes time with the Coburg Tigers in the VFL.
Willsmore says the locally-based players have hit the training track already in an effort to make season 2022 a memorable one.
"The boys have actually started. It wasn't compulsory but the new coaches have really got a high emphasis on fitness,"
"The boys are out and running around and enjoying each others company."
