A big incident between McLaren teammates Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris has finally happened with the pair colliding in the dying stages of the Canadian Grand Prix, which was won by George Russell early on Monday morning.
Norris and Piastri were scrapping for fourth place in Montreal when the Brit overtook the Aussie going down the inside of the long back straight.
Piastri retained his position soon after, but Norris had DRS again going up the pit straight and aimed to move up the inside of Piastri into Turn 1 —a gap that was too narrow.
The challenger inevitably ran out of room and crashed into Piastri and the pit wall, losing his front wing and retiring from the race on Lap 67 of 70.
Norris, who now trails Piastri by 22 points in the drivers championship, was also summoned to the FIA stewards after the race. The result of their investigation is not yet clear.
Norris has since apologised to Piastri and the Aussie has accepted his apology.
Piastri held on to fourth position, earning his 10 championship points and extending his lead over second-placed Norris in the championship standings.
Russell crossed the finish line 0.228 seconds ahead of Verstappen, and 1 second ahead of Andrea Antonelli, who earned his first podium finish of the season.
Verstappen and Russell remain third and fourth in the championship standings.
