With three rounds left to play in the Super Netball, one team's premiership hopes have been dashed two more could also be ruled out by the end of this week.
As of Round 11 last weekend, the Queensland Firebirds are officially out of the race for the 2025 premiership, coming off second-best to the sixth place Melbourne Mavericks – who’s season is hanging on by a thread.
The other team fighting to keep their season alive is the seventh place Giants, who fell to the back-in-form Swifts in the NSW derby.
There are 12 points on offer across the final three rounds of regular competition, so if either the Giants or Mavericks side lose this weekend, they mathematically can no longer make the top four. Same goes if the Sunshine Coast Lightning beat the West Coast Fever this weekend.
The Fever in question however are in hot form, with the West Coast side having equaled the league’s best-ever winning streak – securing their ninth hard-fought win in a row against the Adelaide Thunderbirds on Friday.
The Melbourne Vixens have also strung together an impressive list of back-to-back wins over the past few weeks, coming out victorious against the Lightning in their fifth win in a row to take the third-place spot on the ladder – pushing the Lightning down the fourth.
The Mavericks will be in a tough spot this week trying to keep their season alive as they take on the formidable Swifts who have only dropped 2 games this season, while the Giants take on the bottom of the table Firebirds - who will be playing for themselves and their fans rather than a chance at the premiership for the rest of the season.
Finally the Thunderbirds will be looking for a win to revitalise their side and give them the push they need to claw their way back into the top 4 as they take on the in-form Vixens. Definitely a round not to be missed this weekend if you’re a Super Netball fan.
