NSW primary industries reach record $26 billion

New South Wales primary industries have recorded a new high of $26 billion in gross value of production for 2025–26, increasing four per cent on the previous year.
Figures from the NSW Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development show the sector added another one billion dollars in production value, setting a record for the second consecutive year despite challenging seasonal conditions and global market pressures.
Livestock was the strongest-performing sector, rising 25 per cent to $11.9 billion, supported by record red meat production and stronger prices. Cropping reached $9.8 billion, while horticulture, including wine grapes, contributed $3.7 billion.
The state’s primary industries exports remained strong at $13 billion, the second-highest result on record. Beef exports reached a third consecutive record of $3.7 billion up 34 per cent year-on-year.
NSW Agriculture Minister Tara Moriarty says the results reflect the contribution of farmers, fishers and foresters to the state’s economy and regional employment.
The government says investment in research, biosecurity and emerging industries will help producers manage risks and improve productivity. The full annual figures are due to be published in mid-November.
