NSW FIREARMS REFORMS REFERRED TO UPPER HOUSE INQUIRY

By Jessica Dempster
A New South Wales parliamentary inquiry will examine a bill seeking to repeal a number of firearms law amendments introduced following the Bondi attacks in December 2025.
The private members’ bill was introduced by Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party MLC Mark Banasiak, who argued the original reforms were passed without adequate parliamentary scrutiny or consultation.
Committee chair Robert Borsak says the inquiry will consider whether repealing the amendments is justified and hear from a range of stakeholders.
Public hearings are scheduled to begin on November 13, with sessions at NSW Parliament and in Dubbo, Singleton and Griffith, concluding in February next year.
Submissions are open to stakeholders until February 1, 2027, with the committee due to report by February 15.
The inquiry will also consider amendments contained in the Terrorism and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2025.
