The NSW Government has announced that two of the state’s key animal welfare organisations, RSPCA NSW and Animal Welfare League NSW, will receive $12.8 million towards their enforcement and compliance activities to better protect cats, dogs, livestock, and other animals across the state.

Over the past two financial years, the government has provided $25.3 million to these organisations, with an additional $300,000 provided this financial year as part of ongoing improvements to animal welfare standards.

The funding supports animal welfare inspectors who investigate cruelty complaints, protect vulnerable animals, and provide care and shelter for seized animals.

Minister for Agriculture Tara Moriarty says the government values the long-standing relationships with these organisations and recognises the importance of their compliance work in achieving better outcomes for animals.

Recent measures include banning puppy farms, reforming legislation to prevent convicted offenders from keeping animals, and introducing new offences for leaving dogs in hot vehicles, tougher animal fighting laws, and restrictions on prong collars.

Animal Welfare League NSW CEO Stephen Albin says the funding will help expand inspectorate services across Sydney and regional centres, enabling teams to respond to an increasing number of cruelty complaints and ensure animals find safe, loving homes.
