Australian-grown avocados, potatoes and vegetables will be promoted more prominently in health and nutrition discussions under a new multi-industry program.
The Healthy Horticulture program, funded by Hort Innovation, will provide healthcare professionals, educators and public health authorities with evidence-based resources on the role of fresh produce in healthy diets.
The initiative comes as consumers navigate changing nutrition trends, cost-of-living pressures and ongoing confusion about what constitutes a healthy diet.
Hort Innovation General Manager Production and Sustainability R&D Anthony Kachenko says health professionals are trusted voices when it comes to food choices, making them an important audience for the horticulture industry.
The program will establish a central Healthy Horticulture brand and content hub, alongside a database of health professionals and shared communication channels for participating industries.
The project will be delivered by Bite Communications, with scientific support from FOODiQ Global and oversight from industry working groups representing the avocado, potato and vegetable sectors.
