Man rescued from mine near Coober Pedy

A man has been rescued after he was trapped inside an old mine near Coober Pedy.

Emergency Service crews work to free the man who became trapped after a rockfall in the mine.

Police and emergency crews were alerted to the man's situation at just before 7 pm on Wednesday.

Police say he became trapped under a rockfall at a private mine about 15km north of the township.

It is believed the man had been trapped for several hours before the alarm was raised.

Rescuers were able to retrieve the 69-year-old local man just before 8.30 pm and he has been taken to hospital with a serious but non-life-threatening leg injury.
