Livestock SA has launched a statewide consultation with South Australian sheep and cattle producers on the future of the Sheep and Cattle Industry Funds.
The review forms part of a statutory requirement to remake the regulations governing the funds by September 2026 under the Primary Industry Funding Schemes Act.
Livestock SA Chair Gillian Fennell says the process is also a critical opportunity for producers to shape how their industry invests in biosecurity, traceability, animal health and market access.
Independent analysis shows the funds deliver returns of between three and ten dollars for every dollar invested, but demand for funding is now up to three times available revenue.
Ms Fennell says without reform, fewer industry priorities will be supported at a time of rising regulatory, climate and animal welfare pressures.
Consultation will run through February and March, with regional meetings, online sessions and an industry vote in April before recommendations are submitted to the State Government.
