Australian organic alcohol producers now face fewer regulatory hurdles when exporting to Japan, thanks to the expansion of the Australia-Japan organics equivalence arrangement.
As of October 1, organic wines, beers, ciders, and spirits can be marketed in Japan without the need for additional certification, easing administrative and financial burdens on exporters.
Minister for Agriculture Julie Collins called the change "a significant win for Australian producers and winemakers".
“These changes will help us to showcase Australian wines and alcoholic beverages on the world stage," she said.
Wine is currently the largest organic alcohol export to Japan, and this reform builds on the recent mutual recognition agreement signed with India to promote organic trade.
The government has secured 231 trade access outcomes since 2022, including 29 new markets and 17 restored ones, reinforcing Australia’s global standing as a leader in clean and green agriculture.
