Australian horticulture growers supplying major supermarket retailers are being encouraged to take part in new training aimed at improving their understanding of their rights and protections.
The Know Your Grocery Code program, delivered by AUSVEG in partnership with NextGen and supported by the Australian Government, will provide free workshops across key growing regions.
The sessions will help growers better understand the mandatory Food and Grocery Code of Conduct and how it can be used during negotiations with major retailers.
AUSVEG CEO Michael Coote says the training will help address the power imbalance between growers and supermarkets, with protections only effective if producers understand how to use them.
The first workshops will begin later this month across New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania, with further sessions to be held in other states and territories through to 2028.
Growers can access more information and register through the Know Your Grocery Code program.
