Grain groups strengthen national advocacy

South Australia’s grain producers are set to have a stronger voice on national agricultural policy, following a new agreement between GrainGrowers and Grain Producers SA.

The organisations have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to share information, collaborate and consult on national policy priorities, with the aim of delivering a more coordinated advocacy approach.

The agreement also gives Grain Producers SA an observer position on GrainGrowers’ National Policy Group, providing greater visibility of its national policy development process.

GrainGrowers chair Rhys Turton says growers are facing increasingly complex challenges, including rising costs, regulation and trade and market uncertainty.

Grain Producers SA chair John Gladigau says the agreement will strengthen South Australia’s influence by combining local grower representation with GrainGrowers’ national expertise and reach.

A similar agreement has been signed with NSW Farmers, creating a broader framework for the groups to work together on issues affecting grain producers.

The organisations say closer collaboration will help align state and national priorities and give growers greater influence when agricultural policies are being developed.
