GPSA Backs South Australian Strategic Fuel Reserve

Grain Producers South Australia has welcomed the State Government’s decision to establish a strategic fuel reserve focused on supporting primary producers during major supply disruptions.

GPSA Chief Executive Officer Brad Perry says the move is a proactive step amid growing concerns around Australia’s reliance on imported fuel supplies.

He says grain producers depend heavily on diesel during seeding and harvest, with any major interruption capable of affecting food production, freight and regional economies.

Mr Perry says recent global instability has highlighted the importance of stronger long-term fuel security planning for Australia’s agricultural sector.

GPSA continues to advocate for a minimum 90-day onshore fuel reserve nationally, while working with governments on supply, pricing and distribution concerns.

The organisation says the new reserve will help ensure essential agricultural industries can continue operating during emergencies or supply chain disruptions.
