Government backs Qantas over Qatar Airways

The Australian government has put forward its future view of the airline industry. In a green paper released to the public.

Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Catherine King had discussions with both airlines.

Qatar Airways planned to increase its flights to Australia, which was rejected according the the green paper due to the invasive body searches of female passengers at Hamad International Airport in 2020. Ms King said the searches were the "context' to deny more flights in July this year.

In a recent Roy Morgan poll Qantas has dropped 181 places in approval ratings.

Qatar Airways has still has existing routes in Australia.
