Funding boost for WA sheep industry transition

Western Australian sheep producers will have access to a further $2.5 million in funding aimed at improving productivity and supporting the transition away from live sheep exports by sea.

The funding is part of the Farm System Productivity Program, the first grant initiative delivered under the $5 million WA Roadmap Implementation Fund.

The program supports priorities outlined in the WA Sheep Industry Roadmap to 2028, an industry-led strategy designed to help the sector adapt ahead of the legislated end of live exports from May 1, 2028.

Grants of between $50,000 and $750,000 will be available for projects that improve farm productivity, strengthen industry capability and increase profitability.

The Federal Government says the funding will help producers and supply chain businesses respond to changing markets and build a more sustainable future for the industry.

Applications for the competitive grants program close on September 3, with successful projects to be delivered over two years and completed by May 2028.
