With increased travel expected during the Tour Down Under, the Department of Primary Industries and Regions is reminding people heading into South Australia and the Riverland not to bring restricted fruit and vegetables across quarantine boundaries.

Authorities say anyone found breaching fruit fly movement restrictions faces an on-the-spot fine of $420, with the rules applying to all travellers, including interstate visitors and those simply passing through the Riverland.

PIRSA officers are conducting compliance checks at quarantine stations such as Yamba, as well as random roadblocks at other key locations during the busy travel period.

Travellers are urged to eat or dispose of any restricted produce before entering affected areas, using PIRSA’s yellow quarantine bins located at major entry points.

The reminder comes as authorities continue efforts to protect South Australia’s horticulture industry and support the Riverland’s recovery from recent fruit fly outbreaks.
