Farm Safety Report Reveals Ongoing Toll

A new national farm safety report has reinforced calls for greater action to reduce deaths and serious injuries across Australian agriculture.

The latest Ag Safety Data Net report shows 427 people died in unintentional incidents on Australian farms between 2019 and 2025. Nearly three-quarters were work-related, with farm vehicles involved in almost half of all fatalities.

The report also found New South Wales and Queensland recorded the highest number of deaths, while older farmers and children remain among the groups most at risk.

Researchers say nationally consistent safety data will help target prevention efforts, with falls, machinery, vehicles and livestock continuing to be leading causes of injuries. The annual cost of farm deaths and injuries is estimated to exceed 300 million dollars.
