Coco Gauff surged to her first French Open triumph from a set down in the Roland Garros final against Aryna Sabalenka 7-6 6-2 6-3.

This occasion marked the first French Open final between the top two female players since 2012.

Sabalenka and Gauff have built an intense rivalry over the last five years, contesting numerous dramatic three-set matches, including an unforgettable tussle in New York, where Gauff defeated Sabalenka to win her first major title at the 2023 US Open.

Sabalenka finished the match with 70 unforced errors - the most by any player in any match at this year's women's French Open tournament - and appeared visibly frustrated throughout the match.

She described her performance as "The worst final I ever played".

Gauff on the other hand played with composure from start to finish, and remained in control even after falling a set behind.
