Carlos Alcaraz defeated Jannik Sinner in the longest Final in Roland Garros history 4-6 6-7 6-4 7-6 7-6.
Sinner had not lost a set in the tournament until halfway through the decider, but a determined Alcaraz stormed home to win the last three sets and celebrated a hard-fought victory after five hours and 29 minutes by collapsing on the clay surface he loves so much.
Alcaraz's never-say-die spirit was prevalent throughout the match, but never more so than in the fourth set when he saved three match points and came back from 5-3 down to force a fifth set.
The final set was decided in a nail-biting tiebreaker, in which Alcaraz dazzled with a stunning display of shot-making to win 10-2.
It was the first time Alcaraz and Sinner had met in a final, ticking the final box of what has become the best rivalry in a new era of tennis.
Alcaraz is now 5-0 in Grand Slam Finals, and 8-4 head-to-head against Sinner having won each of their last five matches.
