AVOCADO INDUSTRY CAMPAIGN TARGETS SHOPPING HABITS

Australia’s avocado industry has launched a new campaign encouraging shoppers to handle avocados more carefully in supermarkets to reduce bruising and food waste.

 

Research from Australian Avocados shows more than half of Australians squeeze the middle of avocados to test ripeness, while many handle several pieces of fruit before making a purchase.

 

The industry says that habit can damage the fruit before it even reaches consumers’ homes.

 

To prevent that from happening, Australian Avocados has partnered with two-time Australian Strongman champion Eddie Williams in a campaign featuring a music video titled Are You Bruisin’ While Choosin’?

 

Per industry advice, Mr Williams says shoppers should gently press the neck of the avocado near the stem, rather than squeezing the middle of the fruit.

 

Australian Avocados says the campaign aims to improve fruit quality and reduce unnecessary food waste across the supply chain.
