Wild ride in Riverina leads to arrests

A 33-year-old man and 29-year-old female have been charged with dozens of offences collectively after a man spotted his mate's allegedly stolen ute being driven in the region 4 days later.

Late on Saturday morning a motorist recognised his friend’s Toyota Hilux travelling on the Cobb Highway, Moama after it was reported stolen on Tuesday from Porter Street, Moama.

On this occasion the vehicle was towing a flatbed trailer carrying a Nissan Navara and Murray River Police followed the ute. Police will allege the male Hilux driver crashed into several cars without stopping, then through a boundary fence on Yarraman Road, Bunnaloo.

When the vehicle stopped soon thereafter, police will allege in court that a number of people confronted the occupants, the latter using an iron bar to threaten them.

A short time later, police arrived and arrested the duo and a search revealed a firearm, methamphetamine and a number of items alleged to have been stolen.

Checks further revealed the man was a disqualified driver and the trailer was unregistered.

The two were taken to Deniliquin Police Station with the man charged with 21 offences and the woman six.
