WESTERN RENEWABLES LINK FACES FRESH CRITICISM

The Victorian Farmers Federation has accused the Victorian Government of sending mixed messages over the Western Renewables Link, as the project is reportedly under review while planning requirements are being removed.

VFF President Ryan Milgate says the Government cannot claim the four-billion-dollar project needs an independent review while also clearing the way for construction.

The Planning Minister has activated GC209 rules, taking planning control from six local councils and removing permit requirements for a range of project activities.

Mr Milgate says the move cuts affected communities out of decisions about their own land, despite farmers raising concerns about the project for seven years.

The VFF has consistently opposed the Western Renewables Link in its current form, citing its impact on productive agricultural land and farming businesses.

Mr Milgate says the project has lost the confidence of affected communities and is calling for it to be scrapped.
