The Victorian Farmers Federation is urging regional drivers to report every pothole and road hazard as part of a two-week campaign highlighting concerns over the state of country roads.
The VFF’s regional road reporting blitz follows analysis showing Victorian Government targets for regional road resurfacing and rehabilitation have fallen by more than 75 per cent in five years.
VFF President Ryan Milgate says country roads are deteriorating across the state, with farmers, freight operators and regional communities bearing the brunt.
He says regional drivers are five times more likely to lose their lives on the road compared with those in metropolitan areas, and more investment is urgently needed.
Mr Milgate says temporary repairs are not enough, with the organisation calling for long-term upgrades to improve safety and reliability.
Drivers can report issues including potholes, damaged surfaces, faded line markings and damaged signs through VicRoads’ online reporting system, by calling 13 11 70, or using Snap Send Solve.
