Uncertainty Over New U.S. Tariffs as Beef Awaits Confirmation

Australia’s red meat sector is seeking clarity after the United States flagged a new 15 per cent global tariff following a Supreme Court ruling on emergency powers.

The Australian Meat Industry Council says sheepmeat and goatmeat exports appear set to rise from 10 to 15 per cent, adding pressure to a supply chain already battling high livestock prices and soft demand.

However, reports suggest Australian beef exports may remain tariff-free under the November agreement with the U.S.

Cattle Australia says confirmation is being sought through government and industry channels, stressing the importance of maintaining zero-tariff access to our largest beef market.

The U.S. remains a critical destination for Australian lean beef, with demand described as historically strong.

Industry bodies say they will continue advocating for trade stability amid renewed uncertainty for exporters and processors.
